Ben Ricci, advocate for mentally retarded, has died
Ben Ricci, a longtime advocate for the mentally retarded in Massachusetts, has died. In the early 1950s, following the medical advice of the time, Ricci and his wife sent their six-year-old son Bob to the Belchertown State School for the Retarded. Visiting his son, Ricci was horrified at the living conditions of the residents. Hs book Crimes Against Humanity, described those conditions, which also led him to take take legal action.
