Back in the 1970s, when Mira Bartok was 15, her mother bought a gun. A loving person by nature, she also suffered from schizophrenia. When Bartok heard about the Newtown shootings, she thought again about how easy it is to buy guns, and how much harder it is, Bartok says, for people to find mental health care. Bartok writes and lives in western Massachusetts. Her memoir, "The Memory Palace" was a A 2012 ALA Notable Book and winner of the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography.
