A New Public Radio Station for Great Barrington and Surrounding Area
Great Barrington and southern Berkshire County have a new public radio station, 89.5 FM WNNU, from New England Public Radio (NEPR). The station is part of New England Public Radio's all-news network, offering popular NPR programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered, in addition to call-in programs like On Point and Talk of the Nation that cover topics from art to science, and technology to business, every weekday. For a complete schedule, please visit http://www.nepr.net/schedulesand click on the WNNZ schedule tab.
The station's 270 watt signal covers the southern part of Berkshire County, reaching up to Stockbridge and surrounding communities, and nearby parts of Columbia County in New York.
In all, NEPR's all-news network provides more than a dozen national programs not heard on any other station or network in south county, and connects Berkshire County with Massachusetts news from New England Public Radio's newsroom.
"For several years we've been serving Berkshire County with our all-news service AM 640 WNNZ," said CEO and General Manager Martin Miller. "To better serve southern Berkshire County with a full power FM station that can be heard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we are pleased to have 89.5FM WNNU join our all-news network of stations."
New England Public Radio also serves Berkshire County with its news, classical and jazz service on 88.5FM WFCR, and at 101.1 FM in Adams and North Adams, 98.7 FM in Great Barrington, 98.3 FM in Lee, 106.1 FM in Pittsfield and Lenox, and 96.3 FM Williamstown. Both services can be streamed at NEPR.net.
New England Public Radio plans further expansion of its all-news network in Berkshire County when it puts 98.9 FM WNNI on the air in the spring of 2014. That signal will cover northern Berkshire County from Adams to Williamstown to Pittsfield. NEPR is raising the funds needed to put that signal on the air through its 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign.
