Catherine Chin, Associate Professor of Classics at the University of California, Davis, encouraged historians to embrace and include weirdness, and what she refers to as ‘historical radiance’ when studying and writing about the past. Chin said there are moral benefits with these inclusions, and that “the weirdness of the past gives us fewer places to hide in the present.”
Michael Penn, Chair and William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Religion at Mount Holyoke College, introduced Chin.
This talk was recorded on December 8, 2016 in the Kendade Hall at Mount Holyoke College.
