We left one work out of our recent WFCR series of Great American Symphonies (see this and subsequent posts). Like all major works of art, it's an artifact of its time and place — basically, a time in American history when most Americans knew enough about classical music to get the jokes. The composer (oh yeah...the composer!) was Ernest Gold, best known for scores for such films as Exodus and On the Beach. And now, boys and girls, for your listening (and viewing) pleasure...
