Event Description

Join us for a film Screening of the documentary "Mele Murals" with director Tadashi Nakamura on Friday, November 10 in Keefe Theater Room 008 at Amherst College. "Mele Murals” is a documentary of the transformative power of modern graffiti art and ancient Hawaiian culture for a new generation of Native Hawaiians. The story centers on two renowned street artists, Estria and Prime, a group of native Hawaiian youth, and the rural community of Waimea. Set against the resurgence of Hawaiian language and culture in the past twenty year, Estria and Prime describe how their street art has taken them on personal journeys to discover their history, identity and responsibilities as Hawaiian people.
