Valley Voices Story Slam: Second Chances

March 14, 2014, 7:30-9:30 p.m. – Hinge, Northampton

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

New England Public Radio and the Academy of Music are teaming up to present their first Valley Voices  Story Slam at Hinge in Northampton on March 14, 2014 from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. The theme for the first person narrative is “Second Chances.”

What’s a StorySlam? A StorySlam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It puts emphasis on content and performance, encouraging storytellers to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. It is an exercise in crafting stories within a set time limit and it’s great entertainment.

Ten storytellers will be selected to share their true story, based on the “Second Chances” theme without notes, and in five minutes.  The audience will choose the winners. The first place winner will be awarded a chance to share their story at the New England Storytellers Conference, held this year on the UMASS Amherst campus on March 28; four tickets to The Moth Mainstage on April 5th at the Academy (with four passes to the private event reception), and will have their story featured on NEPR’s AudioFiles. Second and third place winners will win tickets to The Moth Mainstage and will also be featured on AudioFiles.
