U.S. Department of Education Hands Down Tough Sanctions Against Springfield’s Public Schools

Earlier this month, an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education found that Springfield, Massachusetts schools were violating the civil Rights of Somali students by failing to provide an adequate education. Although the department gets about 5,000 civil rights complaints annually, observers say the department’s report was unusually extreme in its criticism and remedies. WFCR’s Karen Brown reports.
