Possible Constitutional Protection for Same-Sex Marriage

Efforts continue to stop a proposed constitutional amendment in Massachusetts that would ban gay marriage , the week after a constitutional convention moved the measure one step closer to the 2008 state ballot. Several state lawmakers are filing legislation that they say would add constitutional protection for civil rights– of which they say marriage is one. The change focuses on an article of the constitution that details what cannot be the subject of a “petition initiative.” State Representative Alice Wolf of Cambridge, a sponsor of the legislation, explained to WFCR’s Tina Antolini how it works.
