“Hidden Wounds of War” Commission Releases Report

A group of Massachusetts legislators, veterans and mental health professionals released a report yesterday on what they are calling “the hidden wounds of war.” The report looks at mental health issues, including post traumatic stress disorder, depression and substance abuse problems– that are plaguing a significant number of veterans returning to the bay state from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. State Senator Stephen Brewer from Barre, who served as a co-chair of the group, told WFCR’s Tina Antolini that, in formulating this report, the commission heard from a range of people with personal experience of these issues.
