Mount Holyoke College professor Christopher Benfey’s new book,Red Brick, Black Mountain, White Clay, merges his background in art history and english with his family’s personal narrative. The story tells of Benfey’s travels from clay steeped North Carolina to Japan. And to Berlin, a place that holds great accomplishment and devastation for his family. In each part of his journey Benfey explores his roots in clay and creativity. Benfey says he wanted to combine academic narrative with memoir writing.
