The Garden of Martyrs – a New Opera – Focuses on a 19th Century Trial and Execution in Northampton

Librettist Harley Eardman, who teaches at UMass Amherst, and composer Eric Sawyer, who teaches at Amherst College, have made the story of two Irish Catholic laborers wrongly accused of murder  into an opara. The Garden of Martyrs is about the trial and execution of Dominic Daley and James Halligan, which took place in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1805.
