Massachusetts is a step closer to knowing where medical marijuana dispensaries will open. State officials today released which cities and towns several dozen groups hope to open the pot distributing facilites.
Applicants were required to declare which city or town they plan to open a marijuana dispensary in this latest round of the license process.
In western and central Massachusetts, Worcester generated the most interest, with 9 applicants. 3 groups are looking to open dispensaries in Northampton, and 2 each in Holyoke, Chicopee, and Pittsfield, among others.
The total number of applications dwindled significantly from the first round of the process. A required $30,000 fee may have deterred some groups from moving forward. The state department of public health says it will announce the approved marijuana dispensaries by the end of January.
