The University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team is now ranked 21st in the country. The Minutemen moved up three spots despite not playing all week.
Not a bad gift to begin the holiday season for UMass. Last week, for the first time since 1998, the team broke into the Associated Press rankings: 24th best in the country.
And after a week of perhaps a lot of turkey but no basketball games, they find themselves ranked 21st.
UMass owes this easy promotion to Michigan and Iowa, who slipped in the poll, and Creighton and North Carolina, who fell out of the rankings.
The Minutemen remain undefeated at 6 and 0; that’s the best in the Atlantic 10.
After more than a week off, they return to the court Tuesday evening at Eastern Michigan.
Meanwhile, UConn moved up a notch in the latest AP poll. The Huskies are now ranked 12th in the country. They play 15th-ranked Florida Monday night at home.
