Despite Underwhelming Win, UMass Men’s Basketball Promoted to 19th in AP Poll

The UMass basketball team cracked the top 20 in the Associated Press men’s college poll. The new rankings came out Monday afternoon.

It was far from their best work of the year, but UMass on Saturday held off Miami of Ohio in a surprisingly tough game.

The team was awarded with a bump in the AP poll. Last week UMass was 23rd. This week: 19th.

The 12-1 Minutemen begin conference play on Wednesday night with a home game against St. Joseph’s University.

A less-rosy result in the AP poll for the University of Connecticut men’s team: For the first time this season, the Huskies fell out of the top 25. They had been ranked as high as ninth in the country.

UConn’s women’s basketball team remains top-ranked, as it has all year.
