Basketball Madness For UMass, UConn, Amherst And Williams

The men’s basketball teams from UMass and UConn are headed to the NCAA tournament later this week.

UMass scored a number 6 seed and UConn a 7 seed in this year’s Division I tournament.

The Huskies play first on Thursday against St. Joseph’s. March Madness begins Friday for the Minutemen, playing Iowa or Tennessee. That’ll be settled after a game late Wednesday night.

And it’s not just the big schools who are in the midst of high-pressure playoff basketball.

In the Division III tournament, the men’s team at Amherst College secured a trip to the Final Four. In a show-down between small liberal arts schools from western Massachusetts, Amherst will play Williams College on Friday.

On the women’s side, UConn’s top-ranked team is of course guaranteed a number 1 seed, but those brackets aren’t unveiled until Monday night.
