The late Massachusetts U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy’s son is planning to run for the Connecticut state Senate. That’s according to two people briefed on the decision.
Ted Kennedy, Jr., is a 52-year-old health care lawyer who lives in Branford.
On Monday in Boston, Massachusetts U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III all but confirmed the announcement, and said his cousin does not need any advice from him.
“Obviously, [I'm] very excited for Teddy,” Kennedy told reporters. “I think he’s going to do a great job. He loves people. I think he’s going to go out there and run a great campaign and I look forward to supporting him.”
Ted Kennedy, Jr., is expected to announce Tuesday that he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for the 12th Connecticut Senate district. The current state senator, Democrat Edward Meyer, is retiring.
