Looking To Solve EMT Shortage, Hilltowns Team Up

Retention of emergency medical technicians, or EMTs, in rural western Massachusetts is critically low in some communities. It’s led to calls for new volunteers and some creative arrangements among neighboring towns.

To get a clearer picture of the situation, we asked Linda Moriarty, the executive director of Western Massachusetts Emergency Services, why more small towns have decided not to contract with private ambulance services.
