Same-Sex Plaintiffs Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary

Saturday, May 17th marks 10 years since couples have been allowed to marry in Massachusetts. That followed the state Supreme Judicial Court decision known as Goodridge v. The Department of Public Health.  Heidi and Gina Nortonsmith of Northampton were among the plaintiffs in the case. Today, Heidi — a nonprofit director — and Gina —  an educational aide — are raising two teenage boys in the same house they lived in back then. As the couple reflects on  the anniversary with NEPR’s Karen Brown, Heidi recalled their historic walk from Main Street Northampton to City Hall for a marriage license.
