Water use restrictions are in effect for parts of greater Springfield this weekend. The limits apply to Springfield, Ludlow, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, and Agawam. Joyce Mulvaney, a spokesperson with the Springfield Water and Sewer Commision, says residents should avoid outdoor watering.
“So lawn watering, filling pools, any outdoor watering that they can forego throughout the weekend, and also eliminating all non-essential water use,” says Mulvaney.
Mulvaney says the commission is not actively enforcing the water rules. She says the restrictions are due to the emergency repair of a water main break at the commission’s Agawam facility. The limits are in effect for three days. Mulvaney says water is still safe to drink. Separately, Northampton has a water use ban in effect. Outdoor watering is not allowed between 9 a.m and 5 p.m.
