"Death With Dignity" Considered in Massachusetts and Vermont

So-called "Death With Dignity" measures that would allow terminally ill patients to end their lives with a doctor-prescribed life-ending drug are under consideration in Massachusetts and Vermont. New England Public Radio's Fred Bever spoke with one opponent, John Kelley of a Massachusetts group called "Second Thoughts."
The measure is modeled on existing laws in Oregon and Washington states. To get the lethal drugs, a terminally ill patient would have to make two verbal requests to a doctor, and one written one, separated by time. Kelley says it could become a dangerous tool.
That was John Kelly of the group Not Dead Yet, which opposes a so-called Death With Dignity bill that Massachusetts voters are likely to see on the November ballot.
