Greenfield Wrestler Loses Bid for Olympic Gold

Dreams of an Olympic medal came to an end today (Wednesday) for Greenfield, Massachusetts native Elena Pirozhkova. She was defeated in her first match of the Women's 63-kilogram Freestyle Wrestling competition in London by Anastasija Grigorjeva of Latvia. Pirozhkova held a 2-0 lead after the first period of the match, but was shutout over the the final four minutes of competition. Pirozhkova gained attention away from the wrestling mat before Olympics started: She was captured by the press playfully hoisting First Lady Michelle Obama into the air at a reception in London.
