Amherst, MA In his novels, stories and plays, Nikolai Gogol turned a sardonic eye on mid-19th century Russian society. His classic short story, The Overcoat has been adapted several times for stage and screen, even as a ballet by Rudolf Nureyev. In its latest incarnation, The Overcoat is a movement theater piece with no dialogue and with music by the soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich. A production of Toronto's CanStage Theater Company, it is making its U.S. premiere at the Belding Theater in Hartford's Bushnell Center. Critic Chris Rohmann has a review.
The Overcoat plays in the Belding Theater at the Bushnell, Hartford through January 30th.
