Date:
01/10/2005

In America, death is a taboo subject, but some healthcare workers are speaking out against a clinical attitude toward the end of life that they say makes the experience worse than it has to be. WFCR presents a two-part series on care for the dying, starting with Karen Brown's interview with Smith College professor Joan Berzoff, who recently edited a social-work textbook entitled Living with Dying. (Tomorrow: Karen Brown previews a hospice-like home that is opening in Amherst, Mass.)
