[Tuesday, July 5, 2011, AMHERST, MA.] This summer, New England Public Radio continues its tradition of carrying live concerts from Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The broadcasts will air Sunday afternoons from 2-5PM, from July 10 through August 28 on 88.5FM and throughout the Berkshires on WFCR's five translator stations: 101.1FM (Adams/North Adams), 98.7FM (Great Barrington), 98.3FM (Lee), 106.1FM (Pittsfield/Lenox), and 96.3FM (Williamstown).

The broadcast season opens on July 10 with superstar violinist Joshua Bell performing a heartwarming Romantic favorite, Max Bruch's "Scottish Fantasy". Guest conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya will also lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Pulitzer-winning American composer Jennifer Higdon's rhythmically thrilling "Loco" and Tchaikovsky's moving "Pathétique" Symphony.

Other highlights include Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops with Broadway stars Kelli O'Hara and Jason Danieley (July 17), an all-Ravel program with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and conductor Emmanuel Krivine (July 24), Tanglewood favorite Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos conducting the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Tanglewood Festival Chorus and mezzo Stephanie Blythe in works by Brahms (August 14), and conductor Lorin Maazel concluding the season with Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (August 28).

"For a music lover, Sundays at Tanglewood are one of the best things about summer in New England," says New England Public Radio Music Director, John Montanari. "This year, the Boston Symphony has outdone itself with eight interesting and entertaining Sunday programs, featuring outstanding conductors, soloists and repertoire."

New England Public Radio's Sunday broadcasts of From the Top and This American Life, preempted by the Tanglewood broadcasts from July 10 - August 28 on 88.5FM WFCR, will resume on September 4. This American Life can be heard as always on Saturday afternoons at 1PM on AM640 and 91.7FM allnews WNNZ, throughout the summer months.
