Musicians who used to perform at the now-closed Yellow Sofa Cafe recently held their first Open Mic.
Imagine, for a moment, what it’s like to stand before an audience and belt out a song you wrote yourself. Now, picture the same thing in front of a crowd that’s attentive and ready to support you. That’s what used to happen for years at an open mic held at a Northampton café called the Yellow Sofa. But since the Sofa closed last winter, the musicians are trying to recreate the experience in a new. Nancy Cohen reports. (The next Yellow Sofa Open Mics will be held April 28, May 5 and May 12 in the Frances Crowe Community Room at the Media Education Foundation, 60 Masonic Street, Northampton.)
