Possible Constitutional Protection for Same-Sex Marriage

Efforts continue to stop a proposed constitutional amendment in Massachusetts that would ban gay marriage , the week after a constitutional convention moved the measure one step closer to the 2008 state ballot. Several state lawmakers are filing legislation that they say would add constitutional protection for civil rights-- of which they say marriage is one. The change focuses on an article of the constitution that details what cannot be the subject of a "petition initiative." State Representative Alice Wolf of Cambridge, a sponsor of the legislation, explained to WFCR's Tina Antolini how it works.
