
Reported Gas Leak Leads to Explosion in Downtown Springfield

Amherst, MA The explosion occurred at the corner of Worthington and Chestnut Streets in downtown Springfield. The building that was levelled housed the Scores Gentlemen's Club. Some two dozen other building sustained damage. The blast sent bricks and glass flying through the streets. Firefighters responded to the scene at 4:20 PM and were investigating a gas leak when the blast happened just after 5 PM, authorities said. People are being asked to stay away from the area.
The blast was felt throughout the region.
18 injuries have been reported, all non life threatening, and all are being treated at area hospitals.
