The Role Polls Play

It's hard to imagine an election without polls. UMass Amherst political science professor Brian Shafner, who studies campaigns and contributes to the blog Pollster.com, says polls got it right when they predicted a Scott Brown victory in this week's Massachusetts special election. But, as he told WFCR's Susan Kaplan, those same polls changed the dynamics of the race, bringing national attention and outside money into the state.
