Springfield Doctor Wins National Award for Fighting Health Care Disparities
The Springfield-Holyoke area ranks 10th nationwide in the rate of AIDS. Hispanics accounting for more than half those cases. But Dr. Claudia Martorell says she sees Hispanic patients receiving a lower quality of care than whites. Martorell is one of only two Hispanic doctors in Springfield who specializes in HIV and Hepatitis-C. In April Martorell will receive a national award for her work fighting health care disparities.
