Springfield's ECOS gives city kids a taste of wilderness.

Following the nation's first Earth Day in 1970, many cities and towns contracted with private nature centers to give their students more outdoor experiences. The city of Springfield, MA developed its own environmental education program, ECO, short for environmental center for our schools. This week on Field Notes, naturalist Laurie Sanders pays tribute to the program, now in its 35th year and the only one of its kind remaining in New England.
