Helping Hospitals Admit Mistakes

Some health leaders in Massachusetts are looking at a new approach to medical errors. There are three components: disclosure, apology, and offer. Ken Sands is vice president of health care quality at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, which last week released what’s called a “Roadmap for Transforming Medical Liability and Patient Safety in Massachusetts.” He told WFCR’s Karen Brown that individual hospitals deal with medical errors differently.
