For almost five decades, South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela has been showcasing his blend of jazz and African rhythms around the world, as well as trumpeting the cause of liberation in his country. His outspoken criticism of apartheid led to death threats from the South African government and thirty years in exile. Following Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, Masekela returned home to South Africa in 1990. He continues to perform extensively throughout the world. His latest tour brings Masekela to Hartford, Connecticut this weekend.
