The $3.5 million dollar project to widen congested route nine through Hadley, Massachusetts begins this month. The project will create two 12-foot lanes and two 11.5-foot lanes on a 1.1 mile stretch of the road from the Coolidge Bridge to Whalley Street. The work is scheduled for completion in august 2006. The town will also spend $409,000 to replace water lines during the construction.
Route 9 stretches across much of Massachusetts, and for commentator Tom Duffy of Northampton, traveling the road has always been something special.
