The father of one of the students killed in Parkland, Florida in February was in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Friday, making his opinions known through art.

At 10:00 am Friday morning, hundreds of students walked out of Ridgefield High School to send a message to lawmakers that they want new gun legislation enacted. Theirs was one of 2,500 schools across the country taking part in the day of action.

More than two months ago, Nikolas Cruz allegedly entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and opened fire. In all, he shot and killed 17 people, leaving another 17 wounded.

Talk show host Alex Jones has responded to a lawsuit from the parents of two children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. Jones has repeatedly claimed on his website, Infowars, that the shooting was staged.

When Lane Murdock, a high school sophomore, heard that 17 high school students and educators had been killed in a shooting in Parkland, Fla., she says she felt numb.

To her, and so many others, mass shootings can feel all too common in the U.S.

"In the time I've been in high school we've had the Pulse, Las Vegas and now, [the Parkland] shooting," Murdock says.

Students across the country are walking out of school Friday to advocate for gun control. In Massachusetts, where schools are closed for vacation week, local activists are holding a community conversation in Springfield. 

The parents of two children who died in the 2012 Newtown school shooting are suing Alex Jones for defamation. Jones is a right-wing talk show host and conspiracy theorist who has claimed the shooting didn’t happen. The defamation lawsuits were filed late Monday in Texas, the home state of Jones' media company, Infowars.

The plaintiffs are Neil Heslin, the father of Jesse Lewis, and Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, the parents of Noah Pozner. Jesse and Noah were among the 20 students and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School who died in the shooting.

In a ruling Tuesday, the highest court in Massachusetts has opened the door for stun guns to become legal in the state.

The Vermont Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that prosecutors did not have enough evidence to hold without bail a man accused of planning a mass shooting at a high school in February. The ruling may bolster renewed calls by the defense to dismiss the case.

S.55, a bill that became the unexpected hot-button issue of the session so far, was signed into law Wednesday on the steps of the Vermont Statehouse.
